Browse one of the most popular travel magazines and you are sure to find in Bali, Indonesia, are among the top 10 destinations in the world.

With its exotic mix of ancient culture, majestic landscapes, the most beautiful hotels in the world and the warm tropical seas around the island paradise, it is hardly surprising.

Bali is located in the Indonesian archipelago only eight degrees south of the equator. The island is 90 kilometers (55 miles) from north to south and 140 kilometers (90 miles) from east to west, and thus does for a tour around Bali and back to your hotel before dark.

rise with views of the mystical volcanic peaks, washed that through the clouds, the rice in the mountains of the crater lakes shimmering, lush rainforests and beaches of white sand of warm ocean currents terraces are carved only a few miracles that millions attract of visitors to this small island every year.

Tips for first time travelers Bali

Let’s look at some valuable tips on how to travel in order to discover the best so that Bali has to offer:

1st Bali’s tropical climate means that travel at any time of year, but its best to check if there are major holidays in Indonesia and religious ceremonies, to prevent the influx of domestic tourists.

2nd Accommodation Bali offers exceptional value, especially if you are traveling on a budget. To ensure that you’re getting the best value for money in advance.

3rd In Bali can be quite an experience to say the least! Rules of the road are lacking, and the traffic can be downright dangerous. Do not assume that the traffic stops for you at a pedestrian crossing when you are on foot. If you drive, the best advice is to paraphrase a famous saying: “When in Bali, drive like the Balinese.

4th Many luxury hotels and villas in Bali will host a driver for you, or you can choose to rent a bike if you do not travel much.

5th As a tourist, you are obliged to shout to be harassed by the local pilots’ transport go? Where you are. If you want to hire a local driver, make sure it’s on the go, you want to arrange a fixed price before they To remove the car. The pilots are willing to share with you, then it is usual to negotiate until you get a price you are comfortable.

6th And while we’re on the subject of barter, it’s perfectly acceptable in the local markets and stands barter, but do not try it in most stores – the seller can be very offended.

7th Hawkers descend on you when you leave your hotel, especially if you are in one of the main tourist areas. Although it may seem rude to you, the best advice is to ignore it. Do not make eye contact or to slow down, look at the goods they sell, unless you are interested to buy something, or can be distracted, what seem like an eternity trying to get rid of them.

8th Beware of counterfeit goods at less than what you need. Bali is known known for his imitations and buy some fake Rolex Fake Rayban in local markets.

9th It is likely that you may be offered illegal drugs in the densely populated tourist areas. Ecstasy, pot, yabba (Crystal Meth) and shabu-shabu (methamphetamine) are the most popular drugs on offer in the clubs and beaches, especially in the area of Kuta.

If you do not want another drug in large, simply ignored the offer.

10th the people of Bali are among the most friendly and relaxed people, you will find anywhere in the world, but that does not let down our guard when it comes to fraud and fraud.

Beware of money changers, which offers surprisingly good rate of exchange of currencies, advertises that offers the least expensive route to your destination without confirming a fixed price and all those who want money before delivery of the goods.

11th And perhaps the best advice for new travelers to Bali is one that is connected to at least look successful – not like a tourist!

This is wise advice about writing tongue-in-cheek, because the small, friendly Balinese framed has no similarity with their larger neighbors to the west. Not only that our cultures are very different and it is our language. The most you could possibly hope for security held as an ex-pat from your home country for an idyllic life living on the island to look for.

However, help a few words of Bahasa this “Oh, I’ve lived here for years” attitude. Selamat pagi (good morning), Tolong (please) and Terim Kasih (thank you), you will have a long way in the East-West relations.

Passports, tickets and visas

If you are a Singapore, Malaysia, Philippines, Thailand, Vietnam, Chile, Hong Kong, Macao, Brunei, Morocco or Peru, you will not need a visa to visit Bali.

For all passport holders get a $ 25 USD will need upon arrival (valid for 30 days pay and expandable) to your visa on arrival. Your passport must have at least six months from the date of entry into Indonesia is valid, and you must supply evidence of the transfer (either back or tickets).

When leaving Bali, you have to pay a difference in the amount of Rp 150,000 per person at the airport. You do not pay in Indian rupees U.S. dollars. Put this money aside and not spend on shopping!

Pro Tip: If you want to avoid queues and baggage collection – you use the service from the airport of Bali Concierge for a VIP experience library. For $ 50, they will escort you from your arrival gate, handles all visa controls and put your luggage through immigration – all while waiting at the bar and snacks.

Travel Insurance

Anywhere they travel insurance is a must. Especially somewhere like Bali, where you probably do outdoor activities, motor scooters and get in the surf. You do not want to be stuck without insurance. We recommend you use a reputable insurance company, such as Zuji, which is paid by the Alliance.

Drugs

Not even Indonesia is very strict with the laws on drugs, and even the death penalty for drug trafficking. There are plainclothes officers who also patrol the streets for providers and users. Basically, do not try – or you’ll end up like Schapelle Corby and Bali 9th

Credit Cards

Bring em but beware, it is always good to have a credit card with you when traveling, especially for unexpected expenses. Remember, your credit card company that you are on the way to report and give them your contact details abroad – otherwise they can delete or suspend your Card on suspicion of fraud. The use of credit cards in Bali, make sure its legitimate objectives, credit card machines – devices that are carefully skimmed off “and steal your credit card information. Avoid places that use the old manual type units, carbon copy – to have a decent place needs an electronic device. Rule of thumb: If you are unsure, just use cash.

Stay healthy and avoid “Bali Belly”

Indonesia is a developing country, and as such was not the same level of hygiene and health standards that we expect in the developed countries. It is recommended to be vaccinated against hepatitis A, typhoid and influenza. It is best to consult your doctor about vaccinations. The water in Bali is not recommended for human consumption, to avoid the famous “Bali belly” Stick To bottled water. If you are very careful, use bottled water for brushing teeth. Avoid ice in drinks and food stalls and small warung (restaurant). But the frozen supermarket or bar must be correct.

Alcohol and Beverage

Alcohol can be very expensive as other locally produced beer Bintang (similar to and is owned by Heineken), which is refreshing and delicious cheap and terrible hangover inducing Arak, the more expensive alcohol in Bali. This is supposedly founded because of the “moral” tax by the Indonesian government. Example. A bottle of Smirnoff vodka costs us 500 000 rp (55 Above USD $). It is a popular option for implementing in your duty-free alcohol. Indonesian law allows for up to one liter per person, which is not much. If you decide to save more, and caught, you should get it to take or pay a * ahem *, “fine” of something 20000-100000 rp rp and you can hold your drink.

Move

The best way to get to Bali, if you are not on the behavior of the game / you to drive your own vehicle is a taxi service and car drivers. Taxis are cheap (ie a meter taxi for 45 minutes a game less than USD $ 7), see below for this post taxis. Make sure the taxi is measured and starts at 5000 rp. You also get the services of drivers from around USD $ 35 for a whole day – it would be advisable to tip the driver at the end of the day.

Cell phones and WiFi

Your own mobile phone is expected to be in a position in the global information networks in Indonesia run, but it can be very expensive to make and receive calls. The best thing to do is to buy local prepaid SIM card (as sympathizers or three) and pop them into your phone – then enjoy the low tax rates. iPhone and Blackberry to work, but you’ll need a SIM card, which Internet data. It is easier to keep the free WiFi access in many coffee shops and bars.

Sockets

In Indonesia, they use 220V, 50 Hz and plugs are round pin twice the European variety. Adapters are available in hotels or can Matahari (supermarket to be bought) to 35,000 Rp

Tipping is Good Karma

Tipping It is sometimes service charges on your restaurant bill nailed. It is not mandatory, but it is a good exercise for your tip hotel porters, masseurs, maids and other staff during your stay. It does not take much – but make sure you take care of, it would by employees who earn only the equivalent of a few dollars per day are estimated to be considered.

Other Stuff

Sunscreen and moisturizer is expensive for some reason, Bali, save your favorites at home. Condoms in Indonesia are not the best quality, it would be wiser, safer, and to ask some of your own. Imodium (for diarrhea medication) is useful to keep up with you, you may at any pharmacy (APOT in Indonesia) in the case of the infamous “Bali belly called” buy.

I recently renewed my Indonesian visa on arrival (VOA) in Bali. It took about a week, leaving three visits to the immigration authorities and Rp251, 600, but it was much easier than the country to get a new one.

Fortunately for me, I live near an office of Immigration (in Singaraja), so that the whole process lasted about an hour, including travel time. If your nearest office is further away, then you must decide whether it is easier to make three trips and a trip to other countries.

need, in my case, I need a sponsor, but I did not hear the other people. If you do this for the first time, I would propose a local person responsible with you just in case. You can always help translate and fill the application forms for visas.

I also did not have a photo, but I heard what other people invited to an injunction, it is better, one just in case. It’s always a good idea, some passport photos if you have an immigration office, you never know when they wear ask for a visit. This should be with a red background.

Since I used my wife as a sponsor for my visa, I had to provide a copy of our marriage certificate. Presumably, if you use someone else, it will not be necessary.

I had to fill in three forms. A letter from a sponsor ended, my wife. The rest I finished it myself (with the help of my wife that it is completely in Indonesian). One form requires a “materai” (buffer), the FP6 costs 000 €. You hold a place on the bottom of the form, and you sign your sponsor so that it overlaps your signatures.

The second time I have done, they asked me to put in my return ticket, presumably to prove that I leave the country.

A small but important detail: Make sure you fill the forms in black ink and capital letters, otherwise they could be rejected. Really! Oh, and it is a good idea to dress pretty well if you go to the immigration office, then west, shorts and flip-flops are like mini-skirts and tight tops. You do not wear a suit and tie, but at least long pants / skirt (jeans are fine) and a shirt or a T-shirt.

You also need photocopies of your passport (with the details of your current identity and Visa), ID of your sponsor (KTP), and your marriage certificate (if your spouse is your sponsor).

from five days after mailing of the forms, I went back to the immigration office and paid for RP250, 000 (equivalent to $ 25).

3 days after I returned to get my visa. Oh, and I had to pay to RP1, again 000 for photocopy of my passport with a visa stamp.

At first I was concerned that since the entire process would take a week, I would end my original visa has (that was two days into the process has expired), but there was no problem because I have to submit the forms before my visa expired . Ideally, you want to go over a week before the expiry of the visa, but even if I did not do that the new visa retrospectively from the date of my original ran out. Nice!

In addition to running the reduced cost of doing so (compared to the country for a visa can be), there is another advantage, the visa stamp, they only use half a page takes a full page in their passport stamp from a standard VOA.

I hope this helps to clarify the process for you.

One last tip: do not listen to everything they tell you at the airport in Denpasar, because false information that there was. For example, they can tell you that there is a country of immigration office at the airport, which is not true. There is a close, but not to the airport. You are also aware that people say they can receive advanced VOA, while they wait, which simply is not true. I suggest you put your energy and avoid asking at the airport.
